We have been traveling since the early 1990s, mostly family traveling from China, US, countries in Europe, Balkan states, Turkey, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Asia countries, Middle East and Africa continent..
Today, when boarding Italian train at Milan Centrale to La Spezia, we had the very first bad experience. We were pick-pocketed. We are careful travelers, but they are more 'skillful' than us. We did read about 'this' before coming to Italy and prepared our mind as best as we could.
One whole wallet was missing (from inside pocket of my jacket). I guess it happened when we were putting luggage on the train. There was one male 'porter' helping us (we didn't ask for help) and two females on board seemed like fellow passengers.
Luckily, I separated our passports into another pocket and divide the cash (one person does not hold all the cash). The wallet contained our train tickets for next journey to Florence and Rome and a couple of hundred euros and another couple of hundred swiss dollars. We lost the cash.
When the train moved, Afnan found the wallet near train toilet and alhamdulillah we recovered our train tickets (but not the cash).
So, those who are planning to Italy please do take note.
1. Do not rush things
2. Do plan to have ample time to do everything
3. 'They' will try to stage 'kelam kabut' situation, perfect timing to 'hit' without you realising (they usually are more than one person). Remember, the wallet was in the inside pocket of my jacket.

This is a valuable experience for us. We have La Spezia, Florence and Rome to go before leaving Italy. We think we will have covered enough of Italy (Venice being many years ago). Many other countries in the world that we wish to visit. Book of Italy is done after this.
